Art Competition and Exhibition
Recently St John’s reroofed—but we saved some of the original slate tiles. The church was built in 1886. The slate tiles come from the town of Blaenau Ffestiniog in Wales.
TWO THEMES
1. SAYINGS FROM THE CROSS
Create a piece of slate art related to one of the sayings of Jesus from the cross.
OR 2. OPEN
Create a sculpture, bird painting, pet memorial, mixed media artwork…. any theme, any style, your choice.

THEME 1. SAYINGS FROM THE CROSS
Create a slate art image based on one
(or more) of the sayings of Jesus from the cross.
There are seven expressions traditionally attributed to Jesus during his crucifixion.
1 Father forgive them, for they know not what they do
2 Today you will be with me in paradise
3 Behold your son: behold your mother
4 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me
5 I thirst
6 It is finished
7 Father, into your hands I commit my spirit
Traditionally, these seven sayings are called words of
1. Forgiveness 2. Salvation 3. Relationship 4. Abandonment 5. Distress 6. Triumph 7. Reunion.
